Hockey preview: UNH vs UML and UNH vs BC
UNH vs. No. 8 Boston College
UNH vs. No. 8 Boston College
UNH hosted the second Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) event this weekend, placing third overall thanks to strong performances by Geneviève Frigon, Lisa Wedsjö, Phil Rivet and Peter Holmes. Frigon improved from a tenth-place finish on the Jan 21 St. Lawrence Carnival to sixth place (2:02.01, 37 points) in the Slalom event at Cannon Mountain.
Including the matchup against No. 19 Providence College over the weekend, the next five opponents UNH will face are all currently ranked in the NCAA Division I top-20 as of January 29.
The UNH Wildcats have caught fire and, after another comeback win, a 60-50 victory over the University of Maryland-Baltimore County Retrievers, the ‘Cats have extended their winning streak to 12.
Like the Wildcats’ season itself, the games played on Wednesday and Saturday marked an inconsistent pattern of feel-good highs and devastating lows.
When you think of college hockey in the Northeast, you may think of a few different teams: the “Battle of Commonwealth Avenue” between Boston University and Boston College, or maybe the Beanpot Tournament which features both teams along with Harvard and Northeastern University. But if you are from the Durham area, you most certainly know the rivalry between Maine and UNH.
There was no wild, spirited fourth-quarter comeback this time.
