A Guide to U-Day!

·

We wanted to take the time to encourage all students to attend U-Day. It is an awesome free event that features just about everything a student could get involved in, as well as a lot of free stuff and a barbecue.  This is a great opportunity for all students to come and see what this university has to offer them. We have found that being involved is what helps students find their place at UNH. The friends they make and the experiences they have, in whatever they choose to be involved in, are the memories that they remember long after leaving UNH.  We both know many students who have gone to U-Day during their freshman and sophomore years and are now in leadership positions in organizations that they signed up for at U-Day. We also know many juniors and even seniors who signed up for something at U-Day and it ended up helping them figure out what direction they wanted to go in life. We know that there is a place for everyone at this school and U-Day can help students find that place.

My Friday night with the EMS

·

There are certainly some students who have no clue what an EMS is. I didn’t until I got the pitch to do this story, to be perfectly honest. Before this past weekend, my knowledge of the McGregor EMS was that they provide emergency medical service to Durham and surrounding areas. As I approached the station at 47 College Road on Friday night, I didn’t know what to expect, except for a unique experience.

Dining Services changes name to Hospitality Services

·

UNH’s outstanding dining outlets are perhaps the most commonly admired trait of the university by its students. There is a plethora of delicious options offered by the three dining halls on campus: Holloway Commons ‘HoCo,’ Philbrook ‘Philly’ and Stillings. At the center of it all is the hard-working, hospitable staff of UNH Hospitality Services, formerly called UNH Dining Services.

CAB presents ‘Deadpool’ as the semester’s first outdoor movie

·

This past Friday night, the Campus Activities Board (CAB) invited students and faculty to gather on the great lawn for this year’s first Outdoor Movie. CAB operated in conjunction with the Memorial Union Building to put on the viewing. Students flooded the open field as early as a half hour before the movie was scheduled to start. The excitement and uniqueness was palpable—the very same aura that has made Outdoor Movie worth returning to for movie-buffs and TV-haters alike.  The Outdoor Movie experience has created an environment that’s alluring for all audiences.

To Greek or not to Greek: why you should join Greek life

·

“Are you thinking of joining Greek life?” If you haven’t heard that question from a friend or relative already, you almost certainly will once you step foot on campus. It’s one of the most commonly asked questions that first year students get asked upon entering UNH. I personally was asked numerous times by multiple people if I had an interest, along with suggestions of which fraternity I should rush. It took me until fall semester of my sophomore year to join my fraternity and not joining sooner has been one of my biggest regrets since becoming a student here.

To Greek, or not to Greek: Why joining isn’t vital to the UNH experience

·

In February 2016, Cosmopolitan magazine featured the University of New Hampshire’s sorority recruitment video on their website, stating that the “ridiculous and amazing and wonderful and bonkers” video was so breathtaking, it was making the grown women at the magazine want to enroll at UNH and participate in the Greek community.

Where to eat on campus: A guide to UNH's dining halls

·

There is no shortage of places to eat here at the University of New Hampshire. There are all types of dining locations, with everything from restaurants downtown, to grab-and-go stores like Zeke’s Café in Dimond Library or Union Court in the Memorial Union Building (MUB). However, arguably the most popular places to eat around campus are the three major dining halls. There is Philbrook, located near “The Timbers”and the freshman dorms Williamson and Christensen Halls; Stillings, located near “The Hills”and particularly popular among Stoke Hall residents; and Holloway Commons, the largest of the three which is centrally located and attached to the MUB. All three dining halls offer allergen-friendly stations, stir-fry, pizza, dessert, sandwich and salad bars.
