UNH ROTC holds Veteran's Day Ceremony

The UNH ROTC program held its annual Hall of Fame Induction ceremony in the Memorial Union Building’s (MUB) Granite State Room (GSR) on Friday, Nov. 4, where three alumni were honored. Following the induction ceremony was a Veterans Day ceremony on the Thompson Hall (T-Hall) lawn. The three UNH alums inducted on Friday afternoon were Colonel J.C. Allard of the United States Army, and Colonels Edward A. Facey and Colleen M. Ryan of the United States Air Force.

Minnesota Senator Al Franken visits campus to campaign for close friend Hillary Clinton

The UNH College Democrats welcomed former Saturday Night Live (SNL) writer and current Minnesota Senator Al Franken on Thursday, Nov. 3 and hosted him in room 233 of the Memorial Union Building (MUB) as he continued his campaign for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. A relatively small crowd of College Democrats gathered as Franken outlined his endorsement of the Democratic candidate. His speech lasted approximately 15 minutes, during which he stressed the importance of voting in a race so tight for both the Senate and the presidency.  

OMSA to host multiple events for Gender Identity Awareness Week

Gender Identity Awareness Week will be held this year from Monday, Nov. 14 to Sunday, Nov. 20. Spearheaded by the UNH Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA), events will be arranged and run by a committee comprised of students, faculty and staff members from different departments across the institution.

Annual Mr. UNH event crowns winner

UNH senior Brennan Young, aka “Mr. Sunshine,” was crowned this year’s Mr. UNH on Tuesday, Nov. 1. The annual event, hosted by the Chi Omega sorority, was held in the Memorial Union Building’s (MUB) Granite State Room (GSR) from 7:30–9 p.m. and tickets cost $5 per person. All of the proceeds from the event went to the Make a Wish Foundation, Chi Omega’s philanthropy. Up against Young were 10 other UNH students, some of which included, Mr. Theta Chi, Mr. NH Gents and Mr. Football, just to name a few.

Fairchild Dairy Teaching and Research Center receive Gold Quality Award

Dairy Farmers of America recently awarded UNH’s Fairchild Dairy Teaching and Research Center with a 2015 Gold Quality Award. The dairy facility has received this award almost every year since the farm’s establishment in 1989. This accomplishment by the facility is a result of the complementary practices used within the dairy and the strategic structure of the farm that aids in both the growth development and the milk yield of the 85 cows, most of which are Holstein and a few are of the Jersey breed. This quality milk is then delivered to the Hood Dairy Plant in Concord and consumed by many Strafford County residents. 

UNH students hit the ice for annual Halloween skate

As Halloween music echoed throughout the Whittemore Center’s (Whitt) ice skating rink, around 150 students gathered together, on and off the ice, to participate in some festivities pertaining to the holiday.

Mills Hall Halloween Extravaganza

For the 13th year in a row, Mills Hall residents hosted their Halloween Extravaganza, opening residential floors to the Durham Community for trick-or-treating fun. The rainy, humid air didn’t restrain the community flooding into the dorm from 4-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, as children, parents, residents and UNH housing staff wore costumes to celebrate the holiday a few days early.

Author Caitlin Shetterly leads discussion on GMOs

Author Caitlin Shetterly visited the Memorial Union Building’s (MUB) Theater 1 at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27. As part of the UNH English department’s Writers Series, Shetterly gave a reading of her latest book, “Modified: GMOs and the Threat to Our Food, Our Land, Our Future,” which was followed by a discussion.

Cultures mingle at the third annual International Café Harvest Party

The third annual International Café Harvest Party was held free of charge for UNH students at the Freedom Café on Thursday, Oct. 27. International Café is a biweekly event organized by the Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU) to provide a “way to invite international students to a group” and bridge the gap between the international and U.S. students, according to UNH student and CRU member Noey Struthers. Happening right before Halloween weekend, some Harvest Party attendees were in costume, including Struthers dressed as “a ‘70s girl,” and someone else as the blue power ranger.

Improv Anonymous hosts annual Spooky Halloween Show in MUB

Improv Anonymous, UNH’s one and only improvisation acting group on campus, hosted its Spooky Halloween Show last Thursday, Oct. 27 from 9–10 p.m. in the Memorial Union Building’s (MUB) Entertainment Center.
