Trump falsely claims 2020 Presidential Election victory

President Donald Trump falsely claimed he won the 2020 presidential election, even though many key states have not counted all of their votes yet. He made this statement when he appeared in front of cameras in the East Room at the White House shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday Nov. 4. While the presidential race remains close, it is not over until all ballots have been counted.

Brave elected first Black sheriff in New Hampshire

Mark Brave, a Democrat from Dover, defeated Republican Paul Callaghan of Rochester in Tuesday’s general election for the position of Strafford County Sheriff. Brave has now become the first Black sheriff in New Hampshire’s history.

Warmington wins District 2 Executive Council seat

Democrat Cinde Warmington won the race against Republican James “Jim” Beard to represent District 2 on New Hampshire’s Executive Council and is currently the sole democrat to be elected to the council this election cycle, as Districts 1 and 5 have not been called yet.

Perkins-Kwoka defeats Polidura in state senate race

After a long 12 hours of Southeastern Granite State voters streaming in and out of polling centers, Democrat Rebecca Perkins Kwoka defeated Republican Sue Polidura in decisive fashion to capture New Hampshire’s District 21 senate seat.

Pappas wins reelection in NH-01

The Associated Press projects that U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas will defeat Republican challenger Matt Mowers in the race for N.H.’s 1st Congressional District. It is the first time a congressional representative from either party from the district has won consecutive terms in over 10 years.

UNH students share their election day experience

University of New Hampshire (UNH) students flocked to the polls on Election Day. Oyster River High School (ORHS) was bustling with voters and electioneers. Faces were covered with masks, but spirits remained high. Coffee was served and buses shuttled students back and forth from campus to the polls.

In New Hampshire, Biden currently leads Trump by eight points, according to a poll released by the University of New Hampshire (UNH) Survey Center.

Ed Markey Visits the Freedom Café and discusses the possible job creations that fighting climate change offers

Sen. Ed Markey (Massachusetts) talked about Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s plans to use the current climate change crisis to create more jobs for Americans. Markey’s message to University of New Hampshire (UNH) students is to vote for Biden to fight climate change and combat systemic racism in America. The senator talked to the Durham community at a campaign event for Biden at the Freedom Café on Friday, Oct. 30.

Take Back the Night: SHARPP Event

At the annual Take Back the Night event for survivors of sexual assault and harassment at the University of New Hampshire (UNH), students, faculty and staff showed off their support by hanging posters, putting purple glowsticks in their windows and posting pictures with the caption #UNHPurpleThursday over social media for the virtual event on Thursday, Oct. 22. The event was put on by the Sexual Harassment and Rape Prevention Program (SHARPP) at UNH.

The events during body positivity week normally include documentary screenings, body positive workshops and activity tables, but due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) all activities were moved online.
