N.H. House Bill 98 would move state primary to June

·

Earlier this week, the New Hampshire State Senate began hearings over House Bill 98 which would move the state primary ahead to the fourth Tuesday in June, two months earlier than its current date on the second Tuesday in September. The bill passed the New Hampshire House of Representatives last month 195-174 mostly along party lines with six Democrats voting in favor and nine Republicans against.

The University of New Hampshire’s (UNH) Nursing department has received a #63 ranking for its master's programs from U.S. News and World Report. This achievement makes UNH’s master’s nursing program the highest-ranked in northern New England.

Graduate seminar aims to create inclusive science community

According to the National Science Foundation, only 9% of bachelor’s degrees in science and engineering go to Black students. As a leading research institute in the sciences, the University of New Hampshire (UNH) aims to create and follow initiatives for a more inclusive STEM community. Professor for the Department of Natural Resources Serita Frey and doctorate student in the Natural Resources and Earth Systems Science Program Emily Whalen are leading a graduate seminar titled Anti-Racism in Science: Promoting an Inclusive and Equitable STEM Community.

Nevada bill challenges N.H.’s spot as first state to hold primaries

New Hampshire's status as the first state in the nation to hold presidential primaries is being challenged, this time by a bill in Nevada that would cause the state to hold primaries before New Hampshire. However, New Hampshire Democratic Chairman Raymond Buckley said while he is monitoring the situation he is not worried.

UNH Junior receives Truman Scholarship

It was a bright and early Monday morning when junior health management and policy major Grace Roy logged onto her Health Care IT Zoom class. They weren’t supposed to meet that day, but Roy’s professor had sent an announcement a week prior asking the class to gather. Roy was expecting a 10-minute project update. What she wasn’t expecting was Provost Wayne Jones to announce she had won the Truman Scholarship.

The Clothesline Project Temporarily Displayed at UNH

[DURHAM, NH]-- Since 1990, the Clothesline Project has brought awareness to the issue of violence against men, women and children. For those who have been affected by violence, the Clothesline Project allows them to express their emotions on a t-shirt. To raise awareness of sexual assault, sexual harassment and domestic violence, the Sexual Harassment & Rape Prevention Program (SHARPP) at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) dedicated a couple days to their own Clothesline Project. Between social media, coordination and strength from survivors in Durham, this project was able to raise awareness to some of the most impactful issues within society.

States pass laws limiting access to gender affirming health care

·

Last week Arkansas and North Carolina passed bills which limit access to gender affirming care for transgender youth. This year, a similar bill was presented to the New Hampshire House to “categorize sex reassignment surgeries and treatments performed on minors as child abuse,” according to the Concord Monitor.

Alleged social media threat settled by UNH Police

University of New Hampshire (UNH) Police Chief Paul Dean said there was never a threat to the campus community from the alleged social media post this past Saturday night and the University of Maine (UMaine) has settled their investigation of the case.
