TNH Fashions: Effortlessly Earthy

·

If I was being completely honest, I might have titled my   personal style “This is my Roomate’s Sweater.” As a rule, I find myself to be a winning combination of broke and lazy, so shopping is not my strong suit. Don’t get me wrong, I can browse the Urban Outfitter’s online sale section like nobody’s business, but actually going to a store and trying things on is a major chore. Seriously, have you ever gone and tried on jeans? That’s an emotional roller coaster I can ride maybe once a year, and that’s not even considering the price tag.

TNH Fashions: Comfy Chic

·

I’m someone who really loves dressing up for special occasions, or putting together a cute outfit for work or when I’m going out on the weekends. However, in my day-to-day life, comfort is key. When I’m running between classes and the newspaper during the week, I wear almost exclusively leggings and sneakers, because they’re cozy to sit in for long periods of time and easy to mix and match. Even when I’m putting in a little more effort, I tend to opt for flowy shirts paired with scarves instead of restricting material. In spring and summer, I wear skirts and dresses 90 percent of the time for the same reason, rather than shorts or capris. In my opinion, it’s always fun to look good, but it’s even better to feel good too.

TNH Fashions: Sweater Editor

·

Ernest Hemingway. John F. Kennedy. Idris Elba. What do these three men have in common? Answer—they can all pull off the sweater look. Hopefully one day I can join this storied group, but until then, you can find me experimenting with an abundance of sweaters.  Maybe with some buttons, probably knitted, but definitely always with mad style. For those looking to get into the sweater game, heed my advice: go for it, and don’t look back. People might say you have too many sweaters, but don’t listen to them. Remember this: In the middle of the frigid New Hampshire winter, it’ll be the sweaters that keep you warm and not them.

TNH takes on Smuttynose’s 1866 ale

·

As journalists, we know that honesty and integrity are vital to reporting the news, and so, we have to be honest: we, as an editorial staff, don’t know that much about beer. Still, when Smuttynose releases a UNH-themed ale, one does not simply not try it (permitting that one is 21, that is).So, highly unqualified as we may be, some of the legal-aged members of the TNH Editorial Staff sampled the session ale and are happy to report that, at least to our unrefined pallets, it’s a good brew. A message on the can promises that the beer, like UNH, is “borne of New Hampshire’s rugged character, innovative spirit and unbounded opportunities,” and I’ve gotta say, I felt pretty darn rugged popping open a can at 4 p.m. on a weekday. In my defense, it was for “work.”

10 Things to Do When You're Stuck in Durham Over Spring Break

·

It’s time to face the facts, ‘Cats: Not everyone goes to Cancun for spring break. Some of us road trip to Montreal; some of us work; some of us go back to our parents’ place, binge-watch “House” on Netflix and knit 14 hats (and by “some of us” I mean me, last year). Some of us even stay right here in Durham, and spending the week in an empty town while all our friends are Instragramming fruity umbrella drinks by the pool can seem like a major bummer. Not to fear, though, friends. While Durham may not have pool-side cocktails, there’s still plenty you can do to stay busy and have fun when you’re stuck in Durham for spring break.
