Wilson Phillips: How the 90s Introduced Me to the 80s

·

Ah, the 1980s…the decade where vivid neon and perky pastels unrooted equable and banal Earth tones; where large, cumbersome vinyl records crackled with envy at the growing portability of compact cassettes and discs; where the chaotic chronicles of Nixon, Ford and Carter gave way to a 10-plus year streak of Republican-led permanence starring a former Hollywood actor and governor; and where Jon Bon Jovi promised that we were “Livin’ on a Prayer” and “halfway there.”

Amtrak Downeaster: 5 fun things to do near Saco, Maine

·

The next stop on the Amtrak Downeaster is Saco, Maine. While it definitely seems to be more of a spring and summer destination, there are still plenty of things to do in the winter months. The local shops, restaurants and cafés are a great place to start.

The Instagram sensation of Sammy's Market

·

For Durham residents and students at the University of New Hampshire (UNH), Sammy’s Market and its owners, Ravi and Jan Kumar, are the equivalent to Hollywood celebrities who know and treat their customers like “family.”

Game review: 'Bleeding Edge' beta

·

A Norwegian black metal star who has the equivalent of a flamethrower for a mouth. A British history professor whose soul was digitized and put into a robotic snake who now controls his own corpse. A Russian ballerina who was turned into a spy after getting cybernetic appendages—which are bird legs.

Album Retrospective: “Speak” Speaks to Me

·

I will be the first to admit how hard it can be to objectively analyze so-called “guilty pleasures.” Believe me, I’m writing about one right now, because in terms of early to mid-2000s pop albums, Lindsay Lohan’s 2004 debut “Speak” is truly an anomaly.

Game review: “Love Nikki-Dress UP Queen”

·

Love Nikki is the dress-up game from hell, yet I have spent the majority of my college life ideally playing it, trying to appease an overly-judgmental cat with outfits that just got more and more ridiculous as the game went on.

‘Sudden Death’ by Quelle Chris and Chris Keys is an enchanting proclamation of relief

·

Some songs possess this strangely uplifting power; it’s as if the minute you pop your headphones in, the conjuring commences. All your previous trials, tribulations and worries disappear with the roll of that first enchanting piano key, the sound of that first melodic hum and the imagery of that very first line. Quelle Chris and Chris Keys' new song, “Sudden Death,” released on Feb. 4, does this to a T—and somehow, accomplishes much, much more.

An ode to the age of the Wu: Rae and Ghost

·

HOLD UP AND ANALYZE these wild raps bring back those rich, gritty, lyrical bars that represent what is now a scarce style of hip-hop. Raekwon the Chef and Ghostface Killah of the Wu Tang Clan emulate that style of rap.
