Hello! Welcome to the first installation of The Wildcat Word: The New Hampshire’s unprofessional student-run advice column. We’re so glad you’re here. If you submitted a question via the link in our introduction article, or through one of the ominous QR codes around campus, we thank you. Remember, we answer a new batch of questions every week, so keep ‘em coming! If you’d like to submit your own question, our Google form can be found here. If you don’t see your question here, fear not. Questions that have not been answered in this column will either be addressed in upcoming columns or via TikTok, so stay tuned! Without further ado, here are our responses to your (very interesting) questions. Q: “What are the best coffee spots around Durham?”I haven’t been to all of the coffee places in Durham (yet), but I feel like you can’t really go wrong with any of them. Say what you want about UNH, but we can pretty much always get a good iced coffee. Starting with the elephant in the room, we literally have a Dunkin Donuts (Dunks) in the MUB. Whenever I tell my non-UNH friends that we have Dunks in the middle of campus, nine times outta ten, they can’t believe it. Right now at Dunkin, I’ve been obsessed with the Hazelnut Heartthrob coffee (hazelnut and caramel), but my go-to order is an iced hazelnut latte with oat milk.

Do you hate everything in your closet? Are you looking for love in all the wrong places? Are you experiencing an existential crisis?Hi, there! We are Sophia and Leah, and we have the answers to your burning questions. We are two sophomores starting an advice column at The New Hampshire (TNH) written for students by students (not licensed professionals). Our column will surround lifestyle tips such as fashion, relationships, beauty, school-life balance, book/movie recommendations and more. We encourage those looking for advice to submit their anonymous questions or suggestions through ourGoogle form. You can read more about us below, and if you submit a question, look out for our response on the TNH site. Sophia Schlichtmann: I started at TNH as a contributing writer and graduated to a staff position in Fall 2023. I enjoy learning something new with every piece I write. The topics of my articles range from Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the art world, to global issues and sustainable fashion missions in the Seacoast. My major is journalism, and I am pursuing a classics minor and a writing minor focusing on text, business and digital studies. If you’re a Swiftie, a bookworm or a Gilmore Girls fan, we already have three things in common. I’m into romance, autobiography and thriller genres. My favorite books include “The Love Hypothesis” by Ali Hazelwood, “The Silent Patient” by Alex Michaelides and “I’m Glad My Mom Died” by Jenette McCurdy. I work at a crystal and jewelry store, so let me know if you need recommendations. Attention budget girlies, gents, and others, I scout for sales and frequent discount stores in my free time. Fun fact: I recently got a $300 dress for $15. From middle to high school, I did musical theater and choir with severe stage fright. Now, I sit tucked away and write. I am very excited to start this column with Leah, and I hope to gain more knowledge along the way! P.S. I have a peanut allergy, womp womp. Ask me for peanut allergy tips! Leah Pereira: My name is Leah, and I’m a communication sciences and disorders major! I’m a first-time TNH member, joining Sophia in this advice column, and I couldn’t be more excited. I have a problem; I spend all my money on books, clothes and sushi, but I'm working on it. I enjoy being outside, which is part of the reason why I chose UNH, and why I work as a camp counselor in the summertime. When it's nice outside, I love playing tennis, and when it's not so nice outside, you can find me inside having a movie marathon (which is probably just the 2005 “Pride and Prejudice” on repeat). I almost always have my AirPods playing Taylor Swift, Noah Kahan, Gracie Abrams or Lana Del Rey, but recently, I’ve been trying to get into podcasts. I can't wait to hear everyone's burning questions and give my not-so-expert advice. P.S. I do not have a peanut allergy, hooray! Ask me for peanut recommendations.
